Hello and welcome to Amber Setchel Art.

My love of art started at a very young age. Growing up in a very small town in Western New York, I wasn’t introduced to art until middle school. It was an awakening to a whole new world that fascinated me. I quickly learned I had the ability to create art without the aide of coloring books. It was eye opening as a young child to learn how to create my own world on a sheet of paper. I took every art class throughout middle and high school available and loved it so much that I majored in fine arts in college.

In college, I studied sculpture, pottery, printmaking, painting and drawing classes, eventually I gravitated to painting & drawing. As a skilled artist, I learned how to break the rules once I mastered the rules of art.

Much of my style comes from growing up in rural western New York where the landscape is largely untouched by humans. As a child, I spent hours outside observing nature’s shapes, lines and colors. Now I continue to find inspiration in the beauty of the plants not sold in stores which most call weeds. I am fascinated by their constant battle to take back the space which humans have tried to take. Their shapes, colors and lines can be seen in my work. I LOVE color, movement and layering. I use any tool that makes a mark, blends or creates texture.
